Uniting Variety - A Motivational Speech by Alexander Andrews
Good morning ladies and gentlemen.
I am excited to be before you, a diverse nation; before you as an executive producer; before you as a 25-year-old; before you as an individual ready, excited, and passionate to bring television back to the family, back to the people, and most importantly forwards to the ever changing United States.
We are a diverse nation of overwhelming variety. A variety that has served our nation as an incubator of innovation; our histories; our personalities; our passions that make us who we are, and that make us a nation. This variety that comprises our nation has evolved to such a monumental scope; uncontainable to the programming available to us every day.
We are a diverse nation of variety that is spoon-fed mind numbing content that causes hours to disappear. We are spoon-fed programming that is specific to the individual, or a market of people like us. We are grouped together, (because we should be watching certain things). This programming doesn’t challenge us, nor does it push us to experience other forms of entertainment. Television has been made easy. No longer should we be exposed to content that pushes us away from thinking; from sharing, from withholding ourselves from experience.
We are a diverse nation of variety that deserves a television show to push us closer together; to take our diversity and find an outlet for each of us; to take our interests and witness them put together in one format; to take our perspectives and not laugh at each other, but with each other; to take our diversity and still be the States and stand as United as the letters USA. To take our diversity and unite it: the talent, the performances, the styles, the comedy, the art, and the technology. To take our variety and bring us together.
We are a diverse nation of variety ready for the rebirth of a genre; a genre that brought together decades before us; a genre that showcased individuals not too dissimilar to any one of us. We have changed America, better yet, we have evolved. No longer should we be watching reality shows that get us closer to people that are irrelevant to our lives; no longer should we be divided into niche markets that deliver subpar content; no longer should our families be divided by those markets, and make us watch television in four different rooms.
(More relaxed) When the Variety Hour airs, September 9th, 2012, you will see spectacle. You will witness programming that will unite the realms of performance. You will witness characters and cast members that you can relate with – not only to you, but the people surrounding you every day. You will witness inspiration, story, and gain aspects of catharsis, you may never think possible. When you tune into the Variety Hour on September 9th, you will be talking and thinking about it every second until the next episode airs.
Ladies and gentlemen of America; television viewers alike; the Variety Hour is back, and stronger than ever. Inspired by you, the American people, because of your diversity; because of your experiences; and because of your need for something that can bring everyone together. If you don’t cry during this speech, I plan on making you laugh in the future.
